"You are what you eat".
So many moms now a days are on a diet. Thats all i hear. "Oh im on a diet". Which is understandable, having a baby pretty much messes your body up. Even if your a "skinny" girl, after having a kid, your body just isnt the same as it was before. And probably never will be (without the help of plastic surgery). But we all have the extra pound, or 5, or 30 in my case, that we want to loose to feel healthy again.
But what saddens me is when you see moms turn down "junk" food cuz it isnt healthy and they are on a "diet" but then they turn around and give their kids gold fish, and candy, and Ramon noodles, and macaroni and cheese. Would you ever have macaroni and cheese for dinner if you were trying to eat healthy?
Now i know kids can be picky eaters. Trust me, my child is the pickiest. Thats why we have to give her pediasures. But us as parents have to be good examples, and train them while they are young. If we get in the habit of mac&cheese, cheese sticks, and spaghetti -O's and whatever else, they learn bad habits, and bad habits are hard to break.
So anyway, here is a recipe of a fun way to "interest" our picky eaters.
My kid LOVES fruit. So we make Apricot Chicken!
You Need:
4 medium chicken breasts
1 cup apricot jam (ours was home made and had chunks of apricot)
6 TBSP lemon juice
1/2 tsp nutmeg
salf and pepper
Place chicken breasts in a casserole dish. Mix apricot jam, lemon juice, and nutmeg in a bowl. Sprinkle chicken with salt and pepper. Spread apricot sauce over chicken. Cover with foil.
Bake at 375 for 45 minutes. Remove foil, and bake an additional 15 minutes. Serve with rice or vegetables or both :)
Ranch helps Braylee eat healthy lol
But in conclusion... let me make one thing clear,
KIDS NEED TO BE KIDS!
Let them live, let them experience life, even bad food. There is no need for my child to be on a diet. She is skinny as it is. I dont want to teach her to become obsessive about her body like most girls are. I want her to learn to be healthy but also learn to ENJOY life. My point is dont let their entire diet become junk. Its easy to just feed them junk, but we need to incorporate healthy food too :)

My kid eats everything you named - Ramen Noodles, mac n cheese, spaghetti o's, etc. I eat a little healthier then she does not because I want to but because I have to. My biggest goal with my daughter is for her to learn portion control. Eat what you like but eat small portions. She isn't a big eater and I NEVER force her to finish what's on her plate. She has to try everything on her plate including veggies but when she's done she's done. I hope she doesn't have to diet when she's older. I hope that I can instill in her to work out hard like I do and eat what she likes in small portions and she'll be fine!
No your so right!
(i added new stuff to the bottom of this post) becuase i came off the wrong way. Believe me i am all about living life and i dont really agree with "diets" as it is. i agree more with healthy habits and healthy lifestyle but still letting yourself enjoy life :)
Very well said!
I agree! I WISH and can't wait for the day I can cook dinner and she will EAT it. Till then it's veggie dogs, whole grain pastas and veggie burritos. We also only let our kids eat Cherrio's or Chex (their choice) of cereals, no sugar cereals only for special times. People look at me crazy when we tell them our kids don't drink soda too, they don't like it and I'd never been big on allowing my kids to drink it.....water and milk are just fine. Good post, but I can also see how it would be hard to take esp if people have no other choice. My daughter wouldn't eat that yummy plate you made, your lucky your little one will! I have to do pediasures too! :o)
Totally agree with you Christa! I try so hard not to give Ellie mac and cheese just because I know she will eat it. There are so many other healthier things she can be eating. With that said, I don't withhold it from her if we are at a friend's house and that is what their kids are eating, but there is no reason to feed your kids junk every night just because it's easier for you. I just might have to post a post to my blog about this same subject now! I'll springboard it from your blog! You've got me thinking now! :-)

Great post! Yay for mom's who teach their children good eating habits. Can't wait to read more. Glad I found your blog!

It's so true! Now I just have to get rid of all the junk I eat! Haha.
My son is such a picky eater, too. My bf and I are trying to watch what we eat and eat healthier so we want to instill that in our son. Luckily, he loves salads and some veggies! Thanks for the healthy recipe...I'm going to try it out!
I love your approach
I think the most important thing we can teach kids is moderation when it comes to food. My kids have been brought up to taste everything in front of them. I only make one dinner. A main reason for this also goes to manners. What is going to happen when they are eating at a friend's house and mom serves something new or a non-favorite!!
